Hello friends, I hope everybody is doing great. Today, I am
doing a post on proper foundation application because I get a lot of emails
from readers about foundation recommendations and application. I am just going
to run you through a few tips on properly choosing and applying foundation. I wanted
to make this post a pictorial but my camera isn’t being too friendly at the
moment, so I couldn’t get any good pictures but do not fret, I made the post as
self explanatory as I could.
Foundation application can make or break any makeup look, it
basically sets the tone for any makeup look. Here are some tips on proper foundation application.
TIP 1: CHOOSE THE CORRECT FOUNDATION SHADE
This is key to flawless foundation application. I always advise
to get foundation in store rather than online (or else you’re sure exactly what
shade is your perfect colour) and also always get the shade(s) tested on your
jaw line. Don’t just rely on your gut or on the shade the sales attendant
suggests to you, always ask for a tester and try out different shades and
whichever one disappears into your skin is your correct shade, I also advise to
test under natural light or as natural light as possible.
TIP 2: CHOOSE A TYPE/TEXTURE OF FOUNDATION THAT SUITS YOU
BEST
Foundations come in different forms, textures. There are
cream foundations, liquid foundations, crème to powder, powder foundations.
These foundations can either be full coverage, medium coverage, sheer coverage.
You have to know how much coverage you want from a foundation, what consistency
works best for your face and your skin type, which texture you work best with
and which one feels the most natural, comfortable and realistic on your skin.
TIP 3: PREP YOUR SKIN BEFORE FOUNDATION APPLICATION
This is a very
important step before any makeup application. I get a lot of emails where
people ask me for foundation recommendations because the one they are using at
the moment does not stay put, the problem may not really be your foundation, it
may be the fact that you don’t properly prep your face before you apply
foundation. Wash your face with a cleanser, moisturize, wait a few minutes for
the moisturizer to be absorbed, and then follow up with a face primer before
you apply your foundation. The primer acts as a base for your makeup and it also
helps to keep your makeup on for a bit longer.
TIP 4: CHOOSE A PREFERRED TOOL FOR APPLICATION
There are different tools for foundation application; I have
4 in my kit at the moment. Sponge, flat foundation brush, stippling brush and
buffing brush. Every tool works great, it basically depends on which one you
work best with and which one gives you the best result from your application.
TIP 5: ALWAYS SET
After applying your foundation and making sure it blends
smoothly into the neck and hairline, always remember to set with powder. This
step also helps to keep your makeup on for a bit longer and it prevents the
foundation from caking.
I hope this post was helpful, thank you for stopping by. Do you have any thoughts, recommendations or questions? Drop a comment in the section below, till my next post, xoxo.
